In the month of October the Library circulated 27,417 items.  Last year (2007) in October it was 26,359.

Beginning November 15th the Planning Department will start taking electronic submission of new development applications.  This will allow the Inspector to review them on the computer and make corrections if needed. 

At the December 12th City Council meeting, the Council adopted Resolution 2007-15 which establishes a fund for donations to aid homeless youth and families.

A new support group is starting at the Molalla Adult Center.  Low Vision Support groups will begin on Monday, November 26th.  The Oregon Foundation for the blind has agreed to help start this group.

The City Council endorsed a letter to Providence Partners in Health supporting a grant request by Clackamas County Social Services to coordinate the County's 10-year plan to address homelessness.

The Library is a drop-off site for "Fill a Stocking, Fill a Heart".  Patrons can pick up stockings to fill with items so that needy people in Clackamas County will receive a filled stocking as a holiday gift.  The stockings are distributed through over 20 agencies in Clackamas County.

The Police Department has been approved to begin a Motorcycle Unit.

The proposed Nuisance Ordinance, which included a ban on burning was tabled until further notice.  Approximately 50 people attended the November 14th Council meeting in opposition of this proposal.

The City Council has adopted Resolution 2007-13 giving Molalla's endorsement for Clackamas County to initiate the formation of the Clackamas County Extension Service and 4H District. 

At the December 12th City Council meeting the Council approved an amendment to the nuisance code to correct an error; they approved a resolution setting various city administrative fees; they approved a resolution establishing a fund for donations to assist homeless youth and families; and they also postponed adoption of Title 20 of the Molalla Municipal Code relating to development rules until its next meeting in January.

At the February 13, 2008 City Council meeting the Council heard 2-hours of testimony from citizens regarding the proposed Bohlander Field improvements.  This project is on hold for at least a year to ensure full public participation, alternative analysis, engineering study and cost estimates.

At the February 13, 2008 City Council meeting, the Council heard a presentation on urban renewal from consultant Charles Kupper, reviewed the findings of an urban renewal feasibility study and directed the City Manager to move forward with developing an urban renewal plan.

The Council has accepted an urban renewal feasibility study, approved going ahead with an urban renewal plan, and passed a resolution consenting to be a part of a countywide library district, which will be voted on in November.

The Library  received a total of $535 in donations in memory of Marjorie Walsh .

Library--Flyers are now available for the poetry contest.  Deadline for poems is April 30th.

On March 20th the Adult Center hosted the Mayor’s March for Meals day and Mayor Tom Foster and Councilor Mary Jo Mackie delivered meals to the homebound.

Public Works visited the Molalla Service Center (food bank) with City Manager to examine access improvements carried out by the Public Works staff to resolve parking violations by food bank clients. The service center staffers are very grateful for the city’s intervention; the cost of installing a new doorway access, a sidewalk approach and some internal changes were shared 50-50 between the public works department and the school district. The food bank serves between 130 and 160 needy families per month.

Ballots are in the hands of Molalla area voters to decide whether to annex into the North Clackamas Park and Recreation District.  Ballots must be returned to the Clackamas County Elections office or deposited in the ballot return box in the Molalla Public Library no later than 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 20th.  What would it mean?  Click here for complete information about the annexation measure.

 

The City of Molalla is currently reviewing an Urban Renewal Feasibility Study.

ODOT will be constructing a left turn lane northbound on Hwy. 213 at Barnards Road.  The project will be carried out immediately after the Buckeroo in July and will result in a 60-day closure of Hwy. 213 between Molalla Avenue and Vick Road.

The Budget Committee met to hear the budget message from the city manager and to hear departmental budget reports. The committee will continue its deliberations on Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. in the Adult Center.

Wednesday, April 30th, PUBLIC WORK SESSION ON BOHLANDER FIELD improvements--6:00 p.m. at the Adult Center.

City Council meetings for May are:

Wednesday, May 14th and May 28th.

Regular session begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Molalla Adult Center.  Work session is held at 6:30 p.m., the public can attend the session however it is not open to public comment, nor is this session televised.  Any public comments are to be made during the regular session.

        Wednesday, May 14th, City Council Meeting--A 6:00 p.m. work session will be held for agenda review.  The regular Council meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.  The Council will be reviewing an ordinance regulating parking on city-owned lots; a surplus property disposal ordinance; and the Mayor will make a Planning Commission appointment.
