Construction is Coming to OR 211 this November

Construction is coming to OR 211 in Molalla this November

ODOT, in partnership with the City of Molalla, is making pedestrian and bicycle improvements in Molalla along the north side of Oregon 211 between Oregon 213 and North Hezzie Lane. This project will enhance safety, operations, and efficiency for people walking, biking, driving, rolling, and using transit in the area.

Starting in early November, travelers on OR 211 between OR 213 and North Hezzie Lane should expect delays while ODOT constructs a new shared use path, sidewalks, and adds ADA-compliant curb ramps for people using the corridor.

The project consists of several pedestrian and bike improvements, including:

  • Sidewalk between the Safeway shopping center (near OR 213) and the southwest corner of the dental clinic.
  • Separated 10-foot shared use path with 5-foot buffer space from highway between Industrial Way and South Ona Way.
  • New pedestrian bridge over Bear Creek.
  • Additional lighting at the pedestrian crossing on OR 211, on the east side of North Hezzie Lane.
  • New Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps.

Why is ODOT improving OR 211 in Molalla?

Currently, OR 211 between OR 213 and South Ona Way in Molalla lacks space for people walking and biking, causing them to use the narrow shoulder to access commercial services and schools between Molalla Market Center and downtown Molalla.

This project addresses this critical safety need by providing a shared use path on the north side of OR 211 near the Safeway shopping center, Molalla Elementary and Molalla River Middle Schools, and other nearby community resources. The project also includes additional lighting at the pedestrian crossing on OR 211, on the east side of North Hezzie Lane, to increase visibility for travelers
in the area.

What construction-related noise and delays should I expect?

Construction will include daytime and nighttime work. Expect elevated noise and lighting during construction. Work will occur along the highway and off the shoulder, and there will be temporary lane closures and flaggers directing traffic. During construction, signed and accessible temporary pedestrian and bicycle access routes will be provided west of Industrial Way. Watch for signs and follow flagger directions.

Schedule

Construction will begin in early November and is expected to be complete in summer 2021.

Travel safety tips

For drivers

  • Watch for signs and traffic shifts. Pay complete attention to your driving.
  • Follow directions from flaggers.
  • Please drive safely and remember, fines in work zones double whether workers are present or not.
  • Expect delays – plan for them – and leave early so you can drive safely through the work zone. Know before you go: Check TripCheck for real-time traffic impacts.

For people walking, biking and rolling

  • Be alert. Be visible. Be patient.
  • Follow directions given by flaggers. Flaggers often provide specific instructions for bicyclists and pedestrians. Don’t walk or ride behind cones, barricades or barrier unless directed by a flagger.
