Cured In Place Pipe Program

CIPP is a modern, trenchless way to repair old or damaged pipelines without digging them up. It works by creating a new pipe within the old one, using a flexible liner and special resin that hardens in place.  This resets the capital life of the pipe as if a new pipe had been installed.

Molalla began testing cured in place pipe in 2023 as an alternative to replacing aging sewer mains.  The program has been a resounding success allowing city staff to execute the City’s capital plan for sewer pipe replacement at a fraction of the cost of replacement and driving down inflow and infiltration.  For example, in 2023-2024 the City added approximately 200 units of housing, but the peak season flows to the wastewater treatment plant dropped by several hundred thousand gallons for the cost equivalent of a one block sewer main replacement!
