WE'RE HIRING
CELEBRATE MOLALLA
Thank You, Molalla!
A huge thank you to everyone who came out to Celebrate Molalla this past weekend! From our amazing volunteers and hardworking vendors to all the community members who joined in, you made the event a wonderful success. The energy, smiles, and togetherness truly captured the spirit of Molalla.
Did you get a chance to see our brand-new City Coloring Books at the event? If not, don’t worry—you can still pick one up at the Civic Center or City Hall!
We are so grateful for the support that makes community celebrations like this possible—here’s to many more!

Thank you for coming out to what must have been the warmest Celebrate Molalla ever! The vendors especially appreciated your support. The music was cool, and under the oak tree's a light breeze brought a bit of relief.
We can't wait to see you next year!!!

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING
Mayor Keyser Receives Mayor of the Year Award!
Mayor Keyser and City Manager Huff attended the Oregon Mayor’s Association (OMA) Conference in Baker City from August 14-16.
At that conference, the OMA awarded Mayor Keyser the Mayor of the Year Award! What’s more, Molalla’s reputation as a functional and effective local government lead to the Mayor and City Manager being asked to give a class on Mayor-Manager relations. These are just two more examples of how Molalla is leading the charge in effective, top tier, governance.
Congratulations to Mayor Keyser for a job well done and an award well earned!

Representative Lewis Visits Molalla’s New WWTP!
On August 14th, the City received an impromptu visit from State Representative Rick Lewis who was instrumental in obtaining a $5 million grant from the Oregon Lottery for construction of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)! City Staff provided Rep. Lewis a progress tour of the new WWTP, and Discussed other important City issues for which he has and is providing support. Rep. Lewis has served in the legislature for about 8 years after being a Police Chief in multiple jurisdictions, a Mayor, and serving in the Army. The City thanks Rep. Lewis for his help and support in keeping utility rates in Molalla as low as possible!
In other news, the first wall of the SBR was poured on 8/21/25 and the new plant continues to progress on schedule and on budget!

Lola Ave Water, Sewer, Street Project
The Lola project is replacing the 4-inch steel water main and 8-inch concrete sewer mains originally installed in 1954. This project will continue to reduce inflow and infiltration in the city’s wastewater collection system, and reduce water loss in the city’s water distribution system. Additionally, this project will will provide a new asphalt surface for the roadway. The project has advanced in relatively smooth fashion, and paving is expected to start in the last half of September!
Molalla’s Water System Chlorine Residual
Recently, staff has received reports of a plumbing contractor stating to residents that the chlorine residual in Molalla is too high to warranty their work, then trying to sell chlorine reduction equipment to the same residents. The City of Molalla is well within the rules and regulations of the Oregon Health Authority for all aspects of our water treatment and distribution systems, including chlorine residuals. In fact, the City is within what are known as “best practice” levels, averaging a 0.8 mg/l chlorine residual in the distributions system.
We want to warn that if a plumber states chlorine levels are too high to warranty work, or tries to up sale you on chlorine mitigation equipment, you should demand to see the test location and test results. If you are unclear on what those results mean, you can take a photograph and contact the Water Quality Division who can explain the results to you. There is no reason work on your water system cannot be warrantied, unless you have an issue with your private side (past the meter) piping, your Water Treatment and Distribution staff maintain full compliance with the State’s standards, and even go beyond that to meet with best practice standards.

RECYCLING MODERNIZATION ACT
Composting is Recycling Food.
Recycling is important, but reducing and reusing are even for the environment. Composting inedible parts of our foods like rinds, and pits is great. But before composting an over-ripe berry or bruised apple, challenge yourself to see if you can still use it.
The things we use every day affect our communities and the environment. Manufacturing, transporting, and using products creates impacts at every step. So, extending the life of a product by using it longer helps reduce pollution and makes a positive difference.
How we dispose of an item – and its packaging – also matters. By rethinking our relationship with our stuff and waste, we can help the environment by focusing on reducing waste and reusing.
Buying secondhand, repairing broken items, and repurposing materials conserves natural resources like forests or minerals. It also saves you money. Using what we already own means we don’t have to make new stuff. This helps protect our environment, communities, and people.

Recycling Guide.
Whether you are at home, work, or school, the materials you can recycle are the same. All items should be empty and dry before going into your recycling bin.
